Q & A for Parker & Thomson Pumps

  1. My pump seems to be low on hydraulic fluid, how do I add fluid?

It isn’t possible to add hydraulic fluid to the pump outside of the factory that makes the pump. Please refer to warranty procedures listed at the bottom of this form if eligible or if the unit is outside of the warranty period follow this link to purchase a new pump: https://www.vancemfg.com/vance-hydraulic-pump-for-vance-hydraulic-jack-plates-and-kick-jacks/?searchid=37291&search_query=pump

  1. My Thomson unit has rust on the shaft of the pump, is this covered under warranty?

Yes, Thomson made a batch of units accidentally using the wrong materials in 2022. These units will be covered under an extended warranty until December 31st, 2026 for product replacement.

  1. Does Vance Manufacturing cover costs related to labor to change my warranty pump?

No, only direct replacement parts are covered under warranty process if your warranty request is approved by Vance Manufacturing.

  1. My pump is stuck at the top and makes a whining sound but doesn’t want to go down. What now?

While pushing the down button of your pump control, use a rubber mallet to slightly tap on the top of the sliding mounting plate to go down. This process is best performed by tapping with the rubber mallet near the center of the top of the sliding plate. Only do this for a maximum of 10 seconds to avoid causing further issues inside the pump.

  1. How long is the warranty period for my pump?

Right now, as of 01/16/2026 Thomson pumps are being warrantied from purchase for the prior 2 years and Parker pumps for the prior 1 year with few exceptions mentioned in this Q & A. You must be the original owner and have purchased the unit from Vance directly or one of our qualified dealers and provide us with a copy of your receipt for proof of purchase.

  1. My pump/solenoid makes a clicking noise but doesn’t go up or down. What should I do?

The pump has 2 wires going from the pump to the solenoid. Trace those wires going from the pump to the solenoid and remove them from the solenoid. Once removed, place one wire on the positive terminal of your battery and the other on the negative terminal of your battery. If no action happens from your pump in 3 seconds, reverse the polarity of your wires on the battery and see if anything happens. If your pump is working, there is an issue in your solenoid/wiring/switch/fuse. If it continues to not perform, try these steps with another battery you know is working and tests 12 volts. If you still are not having success and are eligible for warranty period use the following steps listed at the bottom of this form and if outside warranty period consider purchasing a new pump here: https://www.vancemfg.com/vance-hydraulic-pump-for-vance-hydraulic-jack-plates-and-kick-jacks/?searchid=37291&search_query=pump

  1. I don’t have my receipt, what should I do?

If you purchased directly from us, contact us to lookup your receipt. If you purchased directly from one of our dealers, contact them and they should be able to lookup and provide your receipt.
